Preparations Are on Track
The World Championship has been in the works for a long time, and in just over a year, this major international event will take over Tampere. Preliminary round action will be hosted at Hakametsä Ice Hall and Kauppi Sports Center, familiar venues for athletes. However, the most anticipated matches will be played at Nokia Arena, starting from the quarterfinals.
“Tampere offers excellent facilities for hosting a major championship, and the variety of venues allows us to ensure smooth arrangements for both spectators and teams,” says Event Director Hanne Nyrönen.
Floorball Sparks Interest
Floorball is one of Finland’s most popular sports. According to the latest National Sports Survey by Suomen Gallup for SLU, there are over 350,000 floorball enthusiasts in Finland. Interest in the World Floorball Championship is high among this community, and the event also attracts attention beyond the sport’s core fans.
“It’s great to see such strong interest in floorball, and the World Championship is eagerly awaited! Finland proudly holds the title of reigning world champion, and we expect the stands to fill up quickly, especially during the final weekend,” Voutilainen adds.
The previous Men’s World Championship was held in Malmö, Sweden, in 2024, where Finland defeated Sweden 5–4 in overtime to claim the title.
“We warmly invite everyone to experience the excitement of the World Championship. Our main goal is to fill the stands and create an unforgettable event,” Voutilainen emphasizes.
Tickets for preliminary and quarterfinal matches will go on sale later in the spring, once the detailed match schedule is published. These tickets will be significantly cheaper than the final weekend packages now available.
The International Floorball Federation has awarded Finland the hosting rights for both the Men’s 2026 and Women’s 2027 World Floorball Championships.
Finland has previously hosted the Men’s World Championship three times in Helsinki (2002, 2010, and 2021). The first Women’s World Championship was held in Åland in 1997, and Tampere’s Hakametsä hosted the women’s tournament in 2015. Turku hosted the Men’s U19 World Championship in 2009.
